Dr. Venus S. Masselam Ph.D., M.S., CGP, LCMFT, is a psychologist, family therapist, consultant, and approved supervisor. I have a private practice in Bethesda, MD, but I also serve clients all over the world through virtual platforms.

Who I Serve

I provide psychotherapeutic services to adolescents, young, middle aged and aging adults individually or as couples and families.

I provide supervision for family therapists as an approved supervisor for the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. I also provide supervision for group psychotherapists as a Certified Group Psychotherapist as well as providing supervision for therapist interested in working the Aging Adults for the Washington School of Psychiatry and privately.

I provide consultations to therapists for difficult cases.

I provide assessment groups for troubled organizations.

I am a licensed Psychologist and a Marriage and Family Therapist in MD

I am a licensed Psychologist in DC

My Professional Career

I started as a mental health Psychologist working with adolescents In an Industrial School for Girls in Lancaster, MA.I completed my master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts while there in 1963.

From there I went on to be a group therapist in a Drug addiction program in Fairfax, VA and earned my doctorate in Human Development at the University of Maryland in 1987 with minors in adolescent development, family and community. While doing this I became the Director of the Enterprise School in McLean, VA. where I remained for 12 years.

While in Private Practice I earned a second professional master’s degree in Psychopharmacology from Alliant University in 2005.

I have been an Associate and Instructor at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland in group work.

Presently I am on the faculty of the Washington School of Psychiatry in DC where I have been part of the steering committee, faculty and supervisor of the Aging Certificate Program and now serve as co- chair of the Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity and Culture. I have been in private practice for the last 33 years.

During my time in office as President of the Mid Atlantic Marriage and Family Therapists Association Family Therapists were finally able to be certified in the state of MD

As a member of the Mid Atlantic Group Psychotherapist Association I was the conference chair for two major conferences for the Mid-Atlantic Group Psychotherapy Society.

I present at and Conduct workshops for the Washington School of Psychiatry; American Academy of Psychotherapists; American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, Maryland Psychological Association; Ball State University, American Group Psychotherapy Association; Association of Practicing Psychologists in Montgomery and Prince Georges County; Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis, Mid Atlantic Group Psychotherapy Association and others

I publish reviews of books and summaries of programs at the Washington School of Psychiatry in the Psychiatry Journal.
